Welcome! I’m a 41-year-old gay trans woman who spent over four decades locked in a cage of fear and expectations. Now, I’m finally climbing out. I am a passionate writer and poet who has long explored themes of resilience and personal history, but now, I'm finally writing my own authentic story. Alongside my incredible partner (who I’ve known for 35 years and who is navigating her own transition right beside me!), I am stepping into the light. Climbing Out is my personal diary of transformation, from starting hormone therapy to discovering the joy of living out loud. Whether you are already out, or still searching for the lock on your own cage, I’m so glad you’re here.

I haven’t posted in a few days. I wish I was coming back tonight to write another triumphant update about transition and finding my peace, but the truth is, I’m sitting on my porch at 2:35 in the morning, smoking a cigarette, having a drink, and trying to figure out how to breathe. ​Gabi and I are no longer together. ​Writing those words makes it violently real. Day 12: The Eve of the 31st ​I fully intended to sit down and write an update yesterday, but honestly? My mind has been spinning in the best possible way. ​Because tomorrow is the 31st. Tomorrow is the day. ​After 41 years of being locked in a cage, and after decades of pushing down the truth of who I am, I am finally going to sit in that endocrinologist's office. Tomorrow is when we take the next massive step and introduce estrogen into my transition. ​Today marks Day 12 of taking my testosterone blockers. The last twelve days of just being on the blockers have been a quiet, profound kind of preparation. It has felt like clearing the weeds before planting the garden. It wasn't made of iron or steel, but of something much heavier:  FEAR .  It was a cage of expectations, of hiding my true self, and of being terrified of what would happen if I ever picked the lock.  For over four decades, I looked out through the bars and watched life happen, knowing deep down that I wasn't truly living mine. But cages are only as strong as the fear that builds them. And recently, I finally found the bravery to break the lock, push open the door, and climb out.
